The Parke-Vermillion Community Education and Employment Corporation
The Parke-Vermillion Community Education and Employment Corporation grew out of an education and training initiative begun in 1990 by local school superintendents, the area vocational director, and managers of Parke County REMC and PSI Energy. After two years of planning by private sector and public sector representatives, the organization was chartered as a not-for-profit corporation [501 (c)(3)] on November 2. 1992. The corporation is governed by a fifteen member board of directors with nine directors representing the private sector and six the public sector. The corporation 's overall purpose is to promote the relationship between education & training and community development. The corporation 's goals are pursued jointly by employers, local schools, colleges and universities, government agencies, and other community-based organizations throughout the area. The corporation facilitates and supports projects related to education, training, employment, the efficient delivery of human services, and other activities which promote and enhance the quality of life in the Parke-Vermillion area. Two priority goals have been identified by the corporation: 1) to promote and facilitate the delivery of education and training opportunities for present and future employers in the Parke-Vermillion area, 2) to support and facilitate the efforts of local schools to better prepare people for future employment.
